Synergie Solaire in Delhi for the launch of the International Solar Alliance (ISA)

The first international summit of the Solar Alliance took place on the 11th of March 2018 in New Delhi, . This event was attended by the Indian Prime Minister, the President of the French Republic, the Secretary-General of the United Nations and some Solar Mamas from the Barefoot College

Following Nicolas Hulot’s message of encouragement during our last reception in November, Synergie Solaire has been invited to the launch of the International Solar Alliance in Delhi. It was a very inspiring and encouraging event for the solar sector. There is a real political willingness to support this movement; 37 leaders (African for the vast majority, the members being the countries located between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn) confirmed it yesterday. They are aware of the emergency to build a promising legal environment. Concretely, the Terrawatt initiative is highly expected.

4 main lines were identified to “boost” solar energy in emerging countries:

– a skills development at the local level

– the contracts and legislation per country standardisation

– more funding and investment, which requires more creativity and more guarantees (from the states or others)

– more transparency and international collaboration

The Solar Mamas from the Barefoot College attended the meeting of the International Solar Alliance. E Macron expressed his support to this Indian initiative, recommending the construction of 100 training centres similar to this model.

Synergie Solaire, Barefoot’s partner since 2015, financed the construction of a solar energy vocational training centre for women to electrify  their villages in Burkina Faso https://www.synergiesolaire.org/en/projet/solar-training-center-for-women-and-electrification-of-their-villages/ which will be inaugurated in 2018.

We would like to continue to promote in France this initiative supporting the poorest for a social and economic development through access to sustainable energy.
